Get ready to experience the winning PARIS

After Villeneuve d’Ascq in 2002 and Lyon in 2013, France is once again hosting the World Para Athletics Championships. From July 8 to 17, 2023, the French Handisport Federation and World Para Athletics are waiting for you at the Charlety Stadium in Paris, to attend the second biggest Paralympic event after the Games.

Performance, Pleasure and Sharing will be the key words of the World Para Athletics Championships – PARIS’23. From July 8 to 17, 2023, nearly 1,300 athletes from 107 countries will compete in 171 events spread over 10 days of competition. No less than 200 officials and 1500 volunteers will be mobilized to make this event a unique event, only one year before the Paris games.

France, host country for the third time

This is the third time that France has hosted the World Para-Athletics Championships. After Villeneuve d’Ascq in 2002 and Lyon in 2013, it is now Paris that hosts the 11th edition of this major competition in the para-sports calendar. This edition will take place at the Stade Charlety, scene of the traditional World Para Athletics International Grand Prix, the Handisport Open Paris (HOP).

The French Handisport Federation and the Organizing Committee wish to make PARIS’23 an outstanding edition with high standards in terms of general organization, sports and sustainable development, while offering a spectator experience close to the exploits. These worlds will allow to value the performance and the high level of para athletics, but also to encourage its practice to the greatest number through the sport for all

Guislaine WESTELYNCK, President of the French Handisport Federation and President of the organizing committee of the Para Athletics World Championships, PARIS’23

« It is a pride for two reasons to host these World Para Athletics Championships. On the one hand, the know-how of the French Handisport Federation in organizing events is recognized. On the other hand, it is a real challenge to welcome so many athletes in the city that will host the Games one year later. If it is not an official test event of the Paralympic Games, it is however a foretaste for the volunteers, the officials and the public which, I hope, will take the game to encourage athletes and not people in situation of handicap. And that with these championships, the public and the media will not discover Para sports during the Paralympic Games, but rather they will expect it. »

Paul FITZGERALD, President of World Para Athletics

“As Paris prepares for the 2024 Paralympic Games, the organization of the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships offers a unique opportunity for both the city and all of France to discover the greatest sport of the Paralympic movement. These World Championships will be the first competition allowing athletes to obtain quotas for the Paris Paralympic Games. A crucial step in the selection process. What to offer a show that can only be rivaled by the Games, with the best para-athletes in the world. So I invite you to come to the Charlety Stadium, from July 8 to 17, 2023.

Norbert KRANTZ, in charge of the high performance summer sports of the French Handisport Federation

« Participating in the World Championships at home is an extraordinary motivation for our athletes. Of course, it is always interesting to compete abroad, but to participate at home is very important for the French. It is certain that it will stimulate them to increase their performance capital and to go and get results beyond what we could have imagined. For them, it is also an opportunity to federate around them, but also to show to the general public all the work done during the year and why not to look for new partners in the quest for a qualification to the Paralympics. »
